The capability to complete Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption experiments
with samples at atmospheric pressure was commercialized only a few years
ago. Since that time improvements in the technology have been made
including methods to ionize samples directly from liquid matrices, and
with improved sensitivity owing to modulation of the electrostatic field
during the ionization process. This presentation will document the
development of the AP/MALDI-Pulse Dynamic Focusing for improved
sensitivity and the AP/IRIS for Infared-based ionization from solutions.
Results of analysis with these sources as completed on conventional
LC/MS instruments will be described.
