Snap-n-Flow™ Modular System of Microfluidic Components

Chris Phillips, Nanostream Inc.

Nanostream provides high-throughput microfluidic analytical systems to companies involved in drug discovery and development. Nanostreamıs product development is based on proprietary, modular technology that leverages microfluidics and enables rapid prototyping and testing of new products.

Nanostream is pioneering micro parallel liquid chromatography (µPLC) with its premier product, the Veloce system. The Veloce system incorporates replaceable cartridges with 24 microfluidic LC columns operating in parallel for high-throughput, reversed phase separations and UV detection. The Veloce system, used in conjunction with disposable, microfluidic Brio cartridges, provides a high-throughput format for chromatographic separations, thus enabling routine separation based assays and analyses within drug discovery and development. Open architecture software allows analysis by all major HPLC analysis software.

At the heart of the Veloce system is the 24-column Brio cartridge, which enables multiple samples to be analyzed in parallel for increased throughput. Cartridges incorporate columns of varying lengths and a range of stationary phases. Cartridges can be selected to fulfill throughput requirements and to optimize performance for specific experimental protocols.

Nanostream's Snap-n-Flow™ system offers a modular approach to fabricating microfluidic components such as filters, valves, splitters, and mixers. Individual modules are optimized and "snapped" together to form wholly integrated devices. This approach allows for rapid prototyping and seamless scale up, as illustrated below.
