Vendor Session - MALDI Imaging Software for QSTAR® XL System
Elaine Fukuda, Applied Biosystems
A novel software package used to acquire and process
2- and 3-dimensional images using an oMALDI™ QSTAR® System
Assists researchers in learning about drug metabolism
and distribution of drugs throughout tissue
Permits ion images to be created from analysis of tissue
imprinted membranes
Advantages of MALDI-MS Imaging
Offers spatial relationship information of autoradiography/ fluorescence
spectroscopy and compound specificity of homogenization
LC/MS/MS approach
Applies to a wide range of tissue samples
No hardware modification required
Can be performed in the early drug discovery cycle
Surface of Porcine Epidermal Tissue
Treated tissue blotted onto cellulose membrane precoated in a-CHCA
MALDI Image of the distribution of the protonated molecule [M+H]+ at
m/z 532 of Ketoconazole on the surface of porcine skin
acquired after topical application
Examination of individual image pixels and their corresponding mass
spectra permits the construction of a quantitative
profile of ketoconazole in skin.
Comparison with a histological image of the tissue implies drug
permeation up to and including the dermal skin layer
